The Role of the Governing Body
As governors at Woodlands School we work with the Headteacher, Miss Woode, to ensure that Woodlands delivers a good quality education. The headteacher is responsible for day-to-day management; the governors set the aims and policies for the school.
Governors have three main roles:
- To provide strategic direction for the school
- To act as a critical friend to the headteacher
- To ensure accountability
We also carry out a number of other important duties, which include:
- Determining how the school's budget is spent
- Appointing the headteacher and deputy head
- Forming policy on the school's curriculum and collective worship
- Setting policies and standards for pupils' behaviour and discipline
- Making sure the school environment is welcoming and safe
- Setting and monitoring implementation of the school's aims and policies
The full GB meets at least termly and sometimes every half-term. It appoints committees which are able to look at issues in more detail; at present we have two committees, Finance and Premises and Curriculum and Personnel.
Our Chair of Governors is Donna Inwood
Our Vice Chair of Governors are Emma Bunn & Claire Anayiotos
Under the current Instrument of Government, Woodlands Governing Body consists of 18 governors: six elected parent governors, four appointed LEA governors, four staff governors and four co-opted community governors. Governors are appointed or elected for a four year term. The GB may also appoint additional associate governors who are not full members but may attend GB meetings and sit on committees.
